Google eyeing home-services market, scoops up cleaning start-up Homejoy's staff

Looks like Google is now planning to enter the home-services market. The Mountain View, California-based company has confirmed that it is hiring a portion of cleaning start-up Homejoy’s staff.

As per a Recode report, nearly 20 of the start-up's members will be joining Google. They will help the search giant build a technology that'll allow online users to connect with local professionals, including lawn mowers, painters, plumbers, and cleaners.

While Google declined to divulge any further details, the report says that the new technology would be directly integrated into search - just type in a Google search query, and you will be directly connected to the service providers you're looking for, instead of being sent to third-party sites.

The news comes just a few months after Amazon launched its own Home Services portal.
